We’re Searching for New District Commissioner

As Andy and Chris finish their terms as District Commissioners for Blythe and Cole, the process of selecting replacements has begun. To help the County Commissioner, Shirley Bookes, in making her choice, she has asked a small search group to identify and submit recommendations for her to consider as successors.

Therefore we would like to invite you to contribute to this search by submitting nominations of people who you feel should be considered for these important roles, having the skills and qualities to lead a District.

Key roles to consider as a District Commissioner are:

  • people management
  • leadership
  • communication skills
  • managing expectations
  • decision-making
  • use of initiative
  • time management
  • self-motivation
  • flexibility and adaptability

Will you please give serious consideration to people you know in Scouting, at work or in the wider community who you feel would be suitable. Previous Scouting experience is not essential, but we know that it would help. When thinking of a possible candidate please remember that they will not only have frequent contact with members of the District and County, but also the administrators at H.Q. at Gilwell in London.

At this stage of the process, it is important to draw up a list with as wide a cross-section of people as possible so that the search group can begin the process of preparing a short list to give to the County Commissioner, Shirley. You are, of course, welcome to nominate yourself if you feel you have the necessary qualities.

In order to ensure the widest possible consultation will you please circulate this request for nominations to as many people as you wish. This may be verbal, by mail or social media. Please play your part in ensuring that we have a strong shortlist of candidates.Nominations can be made on the DC search page of the Solihull County Website here.

Deadline for nominations is the 1st March
