I am delighted to announce that following a successful conclusion to the Solihull CC Search Process over the last few months, I have appointed today a new County Commissioner for Solihull.
Shirley Brookes is well known to many of you. Currently GSL at 2nd Balsall Common, Solihull County Awards Panel Member, and previously County Training Manager, Shirley has accepted the County Commissioner appointment.
The new role will start on the 14 March 2016 for the next 3 years or so – with a very brief handover period from Ian Carnell, Deputy County Commissioner, Solihull.
Shirley has held a number of senior roles leading large teams outside of Scouting and brings a wealth of experience at all levels and areas within Scouting and is looking forward to embracing this new challenge.
Although 2nd Balsall Common Scout Group has been her particular passion over the last 12 years, Shirley has not been shy in actively supporting The Scout Association’s 2018 Vision of growth and development which are essential elements to the future direction of Scouting.
Shirley has demonstrated particularly her passions in the area of Group development both as a Section Leader and more latterly as Group Scout Leader since 2010. Growing Groups and our connectivity to the communities and society within which we operate within is an essential element of the future direction of Scouting, releasing personal potential and inspiring future generations through Scouting values, beliefs and ideals.
At the same time I would like to add my thanks to both Dave Lodwig (Previous County Commissioner) and to Ian Carnell who has been Acting County Commissioner for a number of months during which time there have been many opportunities to support (Compass restoration; Network Reboot; Cubs100 and of course Census 2016).
Please join me in welcoming Shirley to her new role. I ask you all to support her and the various County Leadership teams throughout the County as we start the processes of transition.
